Steph Curry Honored with Esteemed PBWA Citizenship Recognition

The superstar player of the Warriors has once again added another prestigious honor to his collection.

Steph Curry, the exceptional player from the Golden State Warriors, has an extensive list of achievements. Notably, he has been honored with the MVP title twice, has won the championship four times, holds the record for the most three-pointers made, and has been recognized as the Finals MVP. Additionally, he has been selected as an All-Star nine times and, most recently, has been chosen as an All-NBA player for the ninth time.

But recently, Curry can now boast about another notable distinction. While it might not have the same glamour or significance as the accolades that will eventually grace his resume in the prestigious Hall of Fame, it holds a special place in his heart because of his desire for his legacy to surpass his achievements on the basketball court.

Recently, it was announced that Curry has been named the recipient of the 2022-23 Professional Basketball Writers Association J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award. This recognition not only highlights his exceptional basketball skills but also acknowledges his dedication and contribution to the community.

The PBWA has named their annual award after the NBA’s second commissioner, and it is given to individuals who have shown exceptional dedication and service to their community. Steph and Ayesha Curry’s Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation was commended for its efforts, along with Steph’s discussions about equality during his visit to the White House and his willingness to interact with fans across the country.

Howard Beck, the president of the PBWA, expressed admiration for Steph Curry and the other nominees, acknowledging the significant impact they have made with their powerful platform. While Curry faced some controversy, such as his involvement in the FTX crypto issue and criticism of his stance on housing plans in Atherton, it is undeniable that his positive contributions outweighed any negatives. He consistently made time to meet fans, advocate for equality and equity, and actively participate in community outreach and philanthropic endeavors.

This prestigious award marks a milestone for Curry as the first player from the Warriors to receive it since its establishment in the 1974-75 season. The other finalists this year were Wenyen Gabriel from the Los Angeles Lakers, Paul George from the Los Angeles Clippers, and Grant Williams from the Boston Celtics.
