This upcoming weekend’s highly anticipated film “Batman v Superman” revolves around a clash between two superhero icons, but there is another character who is generating equal excitement – Wonder Woman. Directed by Zack Snyder, this superhero extravaganza introduces movie enthusiasts to Princess Diana, also known as Wonder Woman. She is a powerful Amazonian demigod, originally brought to life by the imagination of William Moulton Marston in 1941.
Wonder Woman, portrayed by Israeli actress Gal Gadot, is ready to take on her own solo film, directed by Patty Jenkins, known for her work on “Monster.” However, for now, Wonder Woman is joining forces with Batman, played by Ben Affleck, and Superman, played by Henry Cavill.
Before becoming the iconic superhero, Gadot served in the Israel Defense Forces for two years. While pursuing her law studies, she had auditioned for a Bond girl role in the film “Quantum of Solace,” though she did not secure the part. Instead, she found success in the popular “Fast and Furious” franchise, playing the character Gisele, a former Mossad agent. Her role in “Batman v Superman” will undoubtedly prepare her for the anticipated 2017 release of the standalone “Wonder Woman” film.
Gadot acknowledges the significance of her role as a prominent female figure in a largely male-dominated superhero domain. In a conversation with The Times, she expressed her understanding of the immense importance attached to this character. She recognized the character’s iconic status and emphasized that it represents a monumental opportunity for women.
